Design standards we work to

The codes, guidelines and discharge norms we design with reference to, and how we handle a client or authority specification.

How we use standards

Each project starts with the governing discharge or water-quality standard for its site and country, plus any client or consultant specification. We design to that, and use the references below for process, mechanical, electrical and documentation work. These are reference standards we work with. Where your specification differs, yours governs, and we tell you early if something cannot be met.

Water quality and discharge

India
CPCB and state pollution control board discharge norms, CPHEEO manuals for sewerage and sewage treatment, and IS 10500 for drinking water.
International guidance
WHO drinking-water quality guidelines, WHO guidelines for safe use of wastewater in agriculture, and the IFC / World Bank Group EHS guidelines for effluent levels.
Country and local limits
The national or local authority standard for the project site (for example in the Gulf, Africa and South-East Asia). We confirm the governing limits with you at the start of each project.

Process and mechanical

Process references
Metcalf and Eddy and manufacturer design data for biological, membrane and chemical treatment sizing.
Pressure equipment and piping
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII for vessels and ASME B31.3 for process piping, with ASME B16.5 flanges where the specification calls for them.
Materials
ASTM and IS material specifications, with stainless steel, FRP, HDPE and coated carbon steel selected for the water chemistry.

Electrical, instrumentation and documents

Electrical
IEC 60034 for motors, IEC 61439 for low-voltage panels and IEC 60529 for IP ratings.
Instrumentation and control
ISA 5.1 symbols and tag numbering on P&IDs, IEC 61131 for PLC programming, and a written interlock list for every plant.
Documentation
PFD, P&ID, hydraulic calculations, equipment datasheets, BOQ, piping material specification and O&M manual in English.

Your specification

If your consultant or authority has a specification, send it with the RFQ checklist. We design and document to it. See also discharge norms and where we work.

Common questions

Do you design to ISO standards?

We use ISO and other international standards as references where they apply, such as for piping and instrument documentation. This is reference use, not a certification claim.

Can you design to my country standard?

Yes. Send the standard or the discharge limits. We design to them and tell you early if any limit needs a different process.

What if my consultant specification conflicts with your usual practice?

The specification governs. We highlight conflicts at the proposal stage so they are settled before ordering.

Have a specification to meet?

Send it with your water data. We reply within one to two working days.
